For the KUB Billboards, CeCe – Christine & Stoph Sauter (born 1958/1963 in Dornbirn/Vorarlberg; live and work in Lustenau/Vorarlberg) developed a six-part series of image-text compositions that artistically reflect their view of the world. Brain teasers in word and image form play with our expectations, refuse to be assessed superficially, demand to be read philosophically and art critically. Image and word meanings overlap and contradict each other, small shifts produce new content. Despite pronounced typographic and iconographic clarity there are multifaceted possibilities for interpretation, and the implicit challenge is to not simply take things at face value.

“'VANITAS – L(eben)' is an empirical attempt concerning the paradigm of transposing attributes of life or physical-mental states in a world of images. It is about visualizing apparently shifted realities or dualities.”
