TcI - Cittadellarte - Biella war während des symposium "il arte al centro" in der Cittadellarte in Biella installiert (3-5.Juli 98) Michelangelo und Maria Pistoletto luden uns dazu ein, als sie uns im sommer 97 im NAVE besuchten. in Biella trafen sich persönlichkeiten aus aller welt und allen gestalterischen feldern über der frage wie die Cittadellarte möglichst rasch in eine form finden kann, die es in offenen werkstätten und labors erlaubt, einen interdisziplinären kunstbegriff zu erforschen und zur darstellung zu bringen; ganz ähnlich wie in CALC, nur viel grösser und eher mit den klassischen medien angepakt. The TcI first installed during the symposium "il arte al centro" in the Cittadellarte in Biella, Italy (July 3rd to 5th, 1998). CALC was invited to display a project by Maria and Michelangelo Pistoletto when they visited the NAVE info-sculpture in the summer of 1997. The symposium was a chance for an international array of design specialists to share their ideas and discuss how Cittadellarte can open studios and labs to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. wegen seines aufbruch-charakters beschlossen wir eine art telematisches beduinenzelt zu installieren. etwas extrem leichtes, in seiner form gebärendes, fragiles, aber trotzdem schutz bietendes... Because of groundbreaking nature of the project we decided to do a kind of telematic bedouin-tent. something extremly light and fragile but womblike and warmly protective. an einem langen kniehohen tisch sassen wir an zwei, ans netz angeschlossenen computern, auf weichen kissen am boden, und luden die teilnehemer des symposiums ins TcI ein, sich in unsere arbeit einzumischen. bei dieser arbeit ging es darum eine struktur und erste ästhetische entscheidungen für eine website für das Progetto Arte zu finden. on a long kneehigh table we sat on two computer workstations connected to the net. on the floor were soft fat pillows. we invited the speakers from the other exhibitions to visit us in TcI, to interface with our art. this process began the search for a structure and esthetic for Pistoletto's Progetto Artea website.
		die Cittadellarte in Biella will das mutterschiff des Progetto Arte werden, eines kunstbegriffs dem es primär um die zusammenführung verschiedenster disziplinen und fragen geht. eine dieser fragen ist wie man die kunst wieder dorthin bekommt wo sie hingehört: in die mitte des gesellschaftlichen. so war die geste, die wir während dieser arbeit vollführten, die des einfüllens des realen ins virtuelle. am ende des symposiums hatten wir strukturell soweit etwas auf der reihe, dass wir dieses nun, zusammen mit den Pistolettos in form einer website (eine virtuelle oberfläche für die fragen und berichte des Progetto Arte) ausführen werden (schreiben Sie CALC, wenn Sie wollen, dass wir Ihnen die Site-adresse schicken, wenn sie online ist). the Cittadellarte in Biella is Progetto Artes mothership; an organism to bring the questions of different disciplines together. one of those questions is how we can bring art back to where it belongs: the centre of society. The dominant gesture of TcI was to funnel the real into the virtual. By symposium end, we had formulated the plan for the "machinery" of this organism, how the questions and reporting would function within the Progetto Artes website. (contact CALC to stay up to date on this project). in Bregenz - im TcII - wollten wir die geste umkehren; anstatt daten und bilder, etc. aus dem realen ins virtuellen zu füllen, wollten wir den grossen coocoon so installieren, dass sich das virtuelle ins reale schütten kann. die metapher der larve wird in diesem architektonischen und thematischen ("Lifestyle") kontext zu einem zeichen, dass in die zukunft deutet, wo wir subjektive selbst- verständnisse durchbrochen haben und zusammenspielen werden. With the TcII in Bregenz, Austria, we hoped to turn around this inital gesture; instead of pushing the real into the virtual, we wanted the virtual to switch places with the real. within the metaphor of the cocoon is the architectural and thematic context ("The Lifestyle")... a sign which feeds into the future, where we will cut through subjective self-understanding and play together. art comes from breaking through the cocoon. kunst kommt vom durchbrechen der larve.
