Press booklet

What can an art institution still achieve today–in the face of global crises, ecological turning points, and warlike violence? Its task lies less in presenting art than in responding to current events: in opening up spaces where the world can be touched, not as a commodity, but as an experience. Kunsthaus Bregenz, with its iconic architecture, is particularly well suited to the task. With its austerity, its permeability, and its materiality, it is not merely a place of presentation, but a resonance body.

KOO JEONG A, Cyprien Gaillard, and Torkwase Dyson each have their own formal vocabulary; what unites them is an awareness of space–a poetic and political sensibility for the topologies of power and possibility.

KOO JEONG A

31 | 01 – 25 | 05 | 2026

KOO JEONG A focuses on incidental occurrences that emerge from patient observation. Invisible phenomena become tangible through sounds and smells–the invented and the found become closely interwoven in the process. Delicate phenomena sensitize our senses and open our imagination. KOO JEONG A’s work is characterized by an exceptionally quiet language and restrained gestures: a few precisely placed...

Cyprien Gaillard

13 | 06 – 04 | 10 | 2026

Cyprien Gaillard combines sculpture, architecture, video, photography, and sound art to create complex works. His themes revolve around youth culture, urban development, the perception of nature, and approaches to life in our time. He sees himself less as an author and more as an observer of existing structures—be they postwar modernist buildings or stereotypical patterns of behavior among young...

Torkwase Dyson

17 | 10 | 2026 – 24 | 01 | 2027

Torkwase Dyson describes herself as a painter, although her work goes far beyond classical painting. In large-scale sculptures, drawings, architectural installations, and performative works, she explores the connections between body, space, nature, and infrastructure. She is particularly interested in how “black bodies” perceive, create, and traverse space, refusing the limitations of colonial...

Florentina Holzinger

August 2026

A further highlight in 2026 is a new site-specific project by the Austrian performance artist Florentina Holzinger. Austria’s representative at next year’s Venice Biennale is developing an Étude specifically for Kunsthaus Bregenz in the summer of 2026. Details on the project will follow, although we can reveal this much already: the lake will play an important role in the work.

1525 – Siegessäule für eine Niederlage

22 | 11 | 2025 – 22 | 02 | 2026

Starting November 22, two “Peasants’ Columns” will stand in the atrium of the vorarlberg museum: Marko Lehanka’s sculpture Bauernsäule Remix 19, 2019, responds to Albrecht Dürer’s design for a Peasants’ War memorial from 1525. Inspired by the German Renaissance artist’s drawing, Lehanka builds a shaky victory column out of jugs, buckets, and tools, crowned by a small, casually smoking figure. In...
