KUB Exhibition Michael Armitage, Maria Lassnig, Chelenge Van Rampelberg Opens in Nairobi

From Bregenz to Nairobi–starting February 19, 2026, joint KUB exhibition with the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute

Michael Armitage, Maria Lassnig, Chelenge Van Rampelberg
February 19–April 5, 2026
Opening at the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI) on Thursday, February 19, at 5 pm (EAT).

In the summer of 2025, three outstanding artistic positions came together in the Kunsthaus Bregenz foyer: from July 12 to September 28, 2025, works by the British Kenyan painter Michael Armitage, the Austrian artist Maria Lassnig, and the Kenyan sculptor Chelenge Van Rampelberg engaged in an exciting dialogue. The juxtaposition is now being presented for a second time at the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI).

Curated by KUB director Thomas D. Trummer, the exhibition will open at the NCAI on February 19, at 5 pm EAT. What links the three artistic positions is their intensive exploration of the human body. On view will be drawings and lithographs by Armitage, drawings by Lassnig, and graphics and sculptures by Van Rampelberg. This is the first time that works by Armitage and Lassnig are being shown in an exhibition in Nairobi.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI), Kunsthaus Bregenz, the Maria Lassnig Foundation, the Austrian Federal Ministry, and the Austrian Embassy in Nairobi.
