When you expect flutes, it's whistles

Cyprien Gaillard's work moves through cities and their fringes, treating entropy as a creative medium. His works reject resilience as a framework for interpretation. Rather, they represent life in inhospitable places as something that simply persists – without commentary or judgement.

Cyprien Gaillard is presenting new, large-scale collages on the KUB Billboards. Gaillard collects original prints of historical press photos from the holdings of defunct American newspaper archives and refers on the Billboards to one of the key themes of his exhibition: “deterrents”–measures designed to deter people in public spaces.
On the road – this year’s KUB Open Air Summer is dedicated to moments of departure and those in between: the road movie as a state of mind, inner and outer movement, shifts in perspective, and the encounters that only happen on the road.
Open Air Cinema: Every Thursday from July 30 to August 20, starting at 9.15 pm
Originally presented in the KUB exhibition LAND OF OUSSS [ GRAVITTA ], KOO JEONG A’s edition features two photographs of the Alps taken from an airplane and is available as a set. Cyprien Gaillard’s O (The Empty Hollow) combines flute mouthpieces with zero-euro banknotes. Both editions are available now.
KUB Summer Open Air 2026 is in full swing! This year’s film programme, themed “On the Road,” explores moments of departure and the road movie as a way of life. From July 30 to August 20, Karl-Tizian-Platz in front of Kunsthaus Bregenz will be transformed into an open-air cinema every Thursday evening.
VALIE EXPORT’s Körperkonfigurationen from the 1970s shape Bregenz’s city centre this summer. Every evening from 9 pm to midnight, KUB projects a selection of VALIE EXPORT’s (1940–2026) most significant works onto the screen at Karl-Tizian-Platz.
During the Bregenz festival season members of the KUB team offer free guided tours as intros to the exhibition. From July 23 to August 23 every Thursday to Sunday at 4 pm.

KOO JEONG A’s works create a delicate balance between the visible and the invisible, subtly challenging our perception of space and time. Exhibition views, reproduced using only silver and black, enter into dialogue with poetic text fragments by the Italian author Federico Nicolao. Together, they create a space in which the works presented in Bregenz can fully unfold their impact.
Cyprien Gaillard has created a limited edition exclusively for KUB titled O (The Empty Hollow), which is also an eponymous group of works in his exhibition. The KUB edition are mouthpieces for transverse flutes that are fitted with with zero-euro banknotes–rolled up like cigarette paper or straws used for consuming drugs. O (The Empty Hollow) thus symbolically intertwine music with the illusion of possession, seduction, and intoxication.
In summer 2022, Jordan Wolfson captivated KUB audiences with his striking works. A comprehensive publication is now being released, bringing back to life the unique dramaturgy of the exhibition created especially for Bregenz. Available now in the KUB Webshop and from Saturday, June 13, at KUB.
In the fourth episode—a special edition of the Cloud Castle podcast—the directors of Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, and Kunstmuseum St.Gallen report directly from Venice on Venice, sharing unfiltered first impressions from the opening days of the 61st Biennale di Venezia.
In late 2025 Kunsthaus Bregenz opened an international call for proposals presenting concepts for the reuse of the “House” from the previous exhibition ███████. The parasitic object was on view at KUB until January 18, 2026, and is to continue to be used as an artist's residence and exhibition space at City SALTS on the outskirts of Basel. A jury and ███████ selected the project out of some fifty submissions.
This Edition was produced by hand in December 2025 by the artist in collaboration with the team of Kunsthaus Bregenz. Each edition is unique.
The publication is released on the occasion of the exhibition Michael Armitage, Maria Lassnig, Chelenge Van Rampelberg at Kunsthaus Bregenz, which brings the works of these three artists into dialogue for the first time. The catalog stands out with an exceptional layout featuring fold-out plates, each presenting three works side by side.
Kunsthaus Bregenz reaches another goal in terms of sustainability: The Institution is now officially part of the Austrian Ecolabel.
